[2:43] If you're here on holiday and you haven't come for the Whitby Gospel Music Convention and you think this is an ordinary Sunday morning. No, it's not quite normal Sunday morning. [2:55] It's a very special Sunday morning and we're going to be treated to all sorts of wonderful blessings from the Lord. But we're going to begin before our meeting begins proper, because we're not meant to do to start for another 13 or 14 minutes. [3:10] We're going to sing some songs from the sheet. Songs before the service. You should have them there. Can I please remind you that if you have a mobile phone to turn it off or onto silent, that will be disruptive. [3:27] And can I remind you that there are some fire exits should we get too excited and the whole place goes up in flames. [3:39] Two at the back and one at the front there, okay? So please make your way to your nearest exit. Your nearest exit may be behind you. So please take note of that as well. [3:50] So we're going to remain seated, I think. Do we remain seated when we sing these songs? So we're going to remain seated and sing songs before the service on page one, when I survey the wondrous cross. Amen. [4:24] The wondrous cross, the peace, the prince of glory dies. [4:36] Thy riches came, thy camembert lost, and for a death, for all my pride. [15:04] Amen. Amen. [16:04] Amen. Shall we just be quiet for a moment, reflecting on what we've sung and to whom we have sung these hymns? Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name. [16:31] Make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him. Sing praise to him. Tell of all his wonderful acts. Glory in his holy name. [16:43] Let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. God has done glorious things for us. [16:54] And to him we give all the glory and the praise as we sing our first hymn. To God be the glory. Great things he has done. So loved in the world. He sent us his son. [17:05] We'll stand as we sing this hymn of praise. Say it again. Thank you. And he'll sing it. Thank you. Obviously she indeed has done has done it. To God be the glory, great things he has done. [17:33] So loved he the one that he gave us his son. To heal his mind, that he tells him to sing. [17:47] And to grant the life that all made the way. Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear his voice. [18:02] Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice. O God, to the Father, to Jesus the Son. [18:16] And give him the glory, great things he hath done. O God, redemption, the precious of life. [18:32] To every believer, the promise of God. The finest of men who truly believe. [18:47] And all men from Jesus have had received. Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear his voice. [19:02] Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice. O God, to the Father, to Jesus the Son. [19:16] And give him the glory, great things he hath done. Great things he hath done. Great things he hath done. Great things he hath done. [19:31] And great a rejoicing through Jesus the Son. And pure and higher and greater will be. [19:47] And greater will be. The wonder of our true when Jesus we see. Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear his voice. [20:02] Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice. O God, to the Father, to Jesus the Son. [20:17] And give him the glory, great things he hath done. Let us come to God then, our Father, through Jesus his Son. [20:34] And give him glory as we pray together. Let us all pray. You, O Lord, our God, are worthy of praise and honor and glory. [20:45] For you are the only God, the true God, the creator of heaven and earth. There is none like you. There is none who is above you. For you are the greatest of the greatest of the greatest of the great. [20:58] And, O Lord, we come to you again. And we find ourselves, O Lord, lost in wonder, love and praise. For we rejoice in the great things that you have done for us. [21:09] For you are great in your person. Great in your love, your power. Great in your wisdom. Great in everything about you. But, Lord, we thank you that your greatness has overflowed into our lives. [21:24] And into this world that you made. For you have given the greatest gift of all. The gift of Jesus Christ, your only begotten Son. And, Lord, we stand amazed again that this morning you gave him for the likes of us. [21:39] That you gave the greatest gift the world has ever known for the greatest sinners the world has ever known. And we confess that we are such this morning. [21:50] That we are men and women who deserve nothing from you. But justice and judgment and anger. And yet, O Lord, you have withheld your anger and given of your grace. [22:02] The one who was without sin. The one who was spotless and pure and holy. The only good man who has ever lived. Jesus Christ. The God man. [22:14] The Savior. We thank you that you came into our world, Lord Jesus. You came to seek and save the lost. You came, O Lord, for sinners. To bring them to repentance. [22:25] And we thank you that by your life. And especially by your death. On our behalf. As our atonement. And by your resurrection from the dead. And the power by which you live forevermore. [22:37] We thank you that you have made salvation. For all and everyone. Who will believe upon you. We thank you, O Lord. That there is none that you will turn away. If you said, whoever comes to me. [22:50] I will not reject or turn away. And Lord, we thank you for drawing us to yourself. By your Holy Spirit. We thank you, Lord. For that day in our lives. That time when, O Lord. We were made from death to life. [23:03] When we were made from blind to seeing. When we were made from lost to found. We thank you that you have continued to keep. And to sustain us, Lord. Throughout the months or years or decades since that time. [23:16] And we're here again this Sunday morning. To declare the faithfulness of our God. To declare that he is the one who saves. And he is the one who saves to the uttermost. We're here again, O Lord. [23:28] To bring you the praise and the worship. And the honor that you deserve. But Lord, we can't do that. Because we still sin. And we still fail. And we still get it wrong. But we're looking for the day. That glorious, wonderful day. [23:40] When we shall be with you. When we shall have all sin removed and stripped away. When we shall be righteous and holy. When we shall be new resurrection bodies. [23:52] Worshipping and praising your God. Without tiring. Without stumbling. Without falling. When we shall see you face to face. O Lord, when we shall be like you. [24:03] O Lord, we praise you and thank you that that day is coming. We know it is a certainty. We know, O Lord, that this world is not going to continue as it is. But Lord Jesus, you're coming again. [24:14] We pray that every one of us here in this building today. May be made ready for that day. For O Lord, it will be either a day of great rejoicing and joy. Or a day of terrible sorrow and grief. [24:27] When you come to judge the earth and the living and the dead. O make every heart ready and prepared. Cause us to walk such lives before you. That we may be ready for when you come for us and take us home. [24:40] We pray, Lord, even as we come this morning. We ask, O Lord, that by your Holy Spirit, you would be at work in our lives and our hearts. That you would be causing us to be men and women of God in this day and generation. [24:53] That we might live for you. And tell others of the wonderful good news. Of the suffering Savior and the risen Lord. Help us, we pray. Help us as we hear. [25:04] Help us as we sing. Help us as we read. For we ask again, Lord Jesus, that in your name, the glory and the honor and the praise. May be brought to your Father. [25:16] Amen. Amen. It is so good to welcome you all. We have special guests here. [25:27] Of no particular importance. Roger Carswell. That doesn't mean he's not important. It just means that the next people I'm going to welcome are not necessarily more important than him. [25:40] Or him more important than them. I'm just saying of no particular order. Roger Carswell. Stop digging. Stop digging. That's true. That's what most people say. [25:51] Good to welcome you, Roger. Thank you so much for being with us. Roger is going to be with us. And I'll tell you a little bit about that through the week as well if you're here. And we do look forward to hearing God's word through you, his servant. [26:04] And the others I'd like to welcome, and I hope I get this right. Welcomente Whitby. Is that okay? Welcomente Whitby. [26:16] The voice of Pharaoh. The voice of Pharaoh. I'm not going to say what your name is in Pharaohese, because that really would be upsetting. For you, I should imagine. My mispronunciation. We're so delighted to have you with us. [26:27] And in a moment, they're going to come and sing for us, which is a wonderful thing. I'm really, really grateful for that. And, of course, Paul Wheater. [26:38] Well, he's here every Sunday. But this is his special weekend of the year. And we really, really thank you, Paul. I know that so much prayer, so much work goes into this weekend. [26:50] And I know that you value it very much as well. And, of course, to remind you, those of you who are part of the Gospel Music Convention, you know what's going on. You've got your programs, what's going to be happening this afternoon and this evening as well. [27:05] So we trust that that will be a blessed time, too. And Roger will be speaking, no doubt, then. So I'm going to invite our dear friends from Pharaoh to come. And they're going to come and sing. [27:16] I'm going to get out of the way. And so is Roger. Yes, give them a welcome, please. Give them a welcome. Thank you. [27:29] Greeting you in the name of the Christ. And it's good to be here. And we bring greetings from the Assembly of Torsalen, where we come from. [27:42] On the 4th of September 1838, in Dalry, in Scotland, William Gibson Sloan was born. He was sent to the Shetland Islands and to Orkney as a missionary. [27:57] And while being in Shetland, he heard about the Faroe Islands from Scottish fishermen. And he wanted to go to the Faroe Islands. In 1865, he came for the first time to the Faroe Islands and he spoke. [28:11] A priest, he gave his testimony in English. He didn't know the language, the first language. And he did some Danish. So, he went on and when he met a child, he just put his hand on their head and said, Troopo Jesus, which is believe in Christ. [28:31] And so he did for 15 years before he saw any fruits. He wrote a song, My Saviour Died on Calvary, which has been translated to Fairways. [28:43] We are going to sing it in his own language. More than 100 years later, our own Johannes, our pianist, wrote the music. [28:57] My Saviour Died on Calvary. Mr. Gibson Sloan died on the 4th of September on his 76th birthday in Fairweil Island. [29:08] He is buried there. You can read more about him in Fred Kelling's book, Fisherman of Pharaoh. My Saviour Died on Calvary. Good morning. [29:21] Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. [29:33] Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. [29:50] Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. That I from guilt and misery should be forever free. [30:13] I'll not forget, I'll not forget, my Savior's all to me. When on the cross he shared his love, don't see you set me free. [30:36] I love to think his pain is o'er, his suffering on the tree. [30:47] That now he's in the glory bright, and that he's there for me. [30:59] I love to think he cares for me, all sinful thou I be. [31:09] And that he never will forget his promises to me. [31:21] I love to think he'll come again to take me to his home. [31:33] For he has promised in his work, for you I'll surely come. [31:43] And now while in this world of woe, I'll seek to live for him. [31:57] Until he calls me to live so far from this world of sin. [32:07] And when with him in glory bright, I in his likeness stand. [32:18] I'll see his praise in rose-wash white, In yonder happy land. [32:37] Thank you. And the last song is Give Thanks, written by Don Moan. Give Thanks, written by Don Moan. [32:53] Give Thanks, written by Don Moan. Now, then, we all are gone With hearts and hands and voices.
