[0:00] name of our Savior, the Lord Jesus, particularly those of you who are visiting us, do trust that not only your worship and time with us be an encouragement, but your time here in Whitby as well. Please would you turn with me in your Bibles to Titus in chapter 2, by way of us drawing close to the Lord in our worship and in his word. It's good for us to remind ourselves of what he has done for us, what he means to us, particularly our Lord Jesus Christ. And in Titus in chapter 2, verses 11 to 14, I'd like to read these words and the word of God which is to us his people. So verse 11 of Titus 2, for the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say no to ungodliness and worldly passions and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age while we wait for the blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior,
[1:12] Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. I wonder how eager you were to come to worship this evening, eager to do good. And this is the work of God's grace in our hearts. He draws us, he moves us, he cajoles us in that sense that we should live in this world with that wonderful hope set before us of Christ's coming, living as God's own very people, a people whom he has redeemed. And this is all of course possible because of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. Don't let anybody say to you that Jesus is not God, he is our great God and Savior. And our first hymn speaks of the glorious names of Christ. Join all the glorious names of wisdom, love and power. Whatever we were to say of Jesus, all of it would be not enough to extol his glory. 165, stand as we sing.
[2:27] NIE SINGLETON To all the glorious saints of wisdom, love and power, that then the apostles grew, that angels had a born, for us to lead to speak this love, to lead to set my Savior forth, to lead to set my Savior forth.
[3:21] Great prophet of my God, my tongue would bless your name, by you the joyful news of our salvation came, the joyful news of sins for him.
[3:45] Oh, bless of duty and peace with them. Oh, bless of duty and peace with them.
[3:56] Let us come to this glorious God in prayer together and continue in our worship and praise of his Son. Let us all pray.
[4:06] Amen. We must confess every time, oh Lord, we begin to sing the praises of your Son, every time we begin to consider and remember what he has done for us and what he means to us, what he has promised us, and, oh Lord, what he has given us.
[4:24] We find ourselves lost for words to describe him, to tell of his beauty, his majesty, his glory. We confess, oh Lord, that just as that hymn expresses, there are not enough names in all the languages, in all the earth to be able to truly tell his worth.
[4:45] There's not enough, Lord, words in the whole universe to be able to truly give to him the praise he deserves, the adoration that is his. And again, we come, oh Lord, and we thank you that we are able to bring to you faltering praise from faltering and failing lips, and yet, Lord, it is pleasing to you.
[5:05] It is pleasing and delightful to you, not because, oh Lord, there is a sinlessness in ourselves that makes our worship admirable, but again, because we know that it is only as we come in Jesus, as we are accepted in the beloved, that, oh Lord, anything that we bring is a delight to you.
[5:25] For when you see us, you see him. Lord, we are to him, we are to you, oh Lord, something of the fragrance of your dear son. And we thank you for that, that his wonderful beauty, his glory, his righteousness, has covered over and done away with the stench of our sin.
[5:41] All those things that drove us from your presence, all that wickedness, all that ugliness of rebellion, we thank you that it has been dealt with once and for all at the cross, and there our sin has been dealt that fatal unfinished blow, so that it shall never again stop or hinder us from drawing near to you.
[6:04] But Lord, we can come, oh, we can come. And we are, we can come, Lord, how we wish that we would come more often. How we long, Lord, that we had a greater desire to be in your presence.
[6:16] How we wish that we had a greater longing to never leave your side. And we thank you that that longing, that desire, which is increasing and growing in our hearts, will find its fulfillment on that day when we shall be with you and never separated from you again.
[6:31] Nothing shall keep us from being in your presence and delighting with you and in you. We thank you there that there will be no more sin, which is a hindrance and a stumbling block.
[6:43] There will be no more pain, no more death, no more sorrow. There will be no more evil. Satan will not be able to fire any arrows at us there, or tempt us away from you and from your good word and will.
[6:56] And we thank you, oh, Lord, that that is our goal, that is our great and glorious finishing line, to be in the Saviour's presence. And Lord, there are days, we must admit, where we feel as if we shall never make it.
[7:10] Days when we look at the circumstances of our world and of our own lives, when we look into our own hearts and see just how sinful we still are. Lord, we are tempted to think, shall we ever get there?
[7:22] Shall we ever make it? Shall we ever fall at your feet in adoration and worship and praise? Or will we stumble and fall away? But, oh, Lord, we thank you that all those fears are unfounded.
[7:33] For, Lord, just as we've sung, so we know it to be true, that we shall be safe for Christ displays superior power and guardian grace. It's not dependent upon us, Lord, to make it to heaven.
[7:45] It's not on our own two feet, as it were. It's not by our own strength, not by our own prayerfulness, not by our own faith. But, oh, Lord, it's all down to you.
[7:57] You are the one who has kept us thus far, and you're the one who will keep us all the way to the end. You're the one who sustains us. You're the one who jees us up. You're the one who keeps us going. You're the one who restores us when we backslide.
[8:09] It's all of you. And we want to give you the praise and glory again this evening. And say, oh, Lord, our hope is in you alone. Our trust is in you alone. For all things.
[8:20] For everything. We pray, oh, Lord, that even this evening, as we draw near to worship, as we draw near to delight in you once more, as we draw near, Lord, to hear your word, and to hear it proclaimed and explained, we are long, oh, Lord, that again and again you would build up our faith, that you would make us the men and women of God we are meant to be, that this world, this generation needs us to be, that we might be the light and the salt, that we might be the lamp upon its stand and the city on the hill, that, oh, Lord, by your grace you would be pleased to work in us and through us to bring and draw men and women to saving faith in Jesus.
[8:58] Oh, Lord, do your work in us, we pray this evening. Lift us up. Lord, correct us where that's needed. Lord, rebuke us where we need those words.
[9:09] But, Lord, tenderly we pray, for you know that we are bruised reeds and smoking flax. Lord, restore us, we ask, that we may be men and women of God and that, Lord, in these days great glory and praise to your name may be given and may be received by you, not only from us but from many, knowing and seeing and trusting Jesus as their great God and Saviour.
[9:34] For we ask these things in his name, we bring our prayers in that peerless name. Amen. Let's sing once more together from our hymn books.
[9:44] Again, a hymn of praise concerning the Lord Jesus and his coming into this world to be our Saviour. 821, from heaven you came, helpless babe.
[9:55] 821. 821. 821. 821. 921. 1021. 1021. 821.
[10:14] 821. 821. 921. 922. Not to be served, but to serve And give your life a key by day This is our God, the seventh King He calls us down to follow Him To bring our lives in the offering All worship to the servant King 1 Peter 2 And this is a book we've been looking at in the past weeks and months Not weeks though, because we had a break over Easter and various things like that So we returned to 1 Peter 2 last week when we looked at verses 11 and 12
[11:16] Particularly the call upon us as believers to live as those who are aliens and strangers in this world Those who are pilgrims Those who are passing through on our way to glory And the challenge that that is, that we are to live good lives And look for the day of God's visit And so we're going to continue from there But read from verse 11 of chapter 2 to the end of the chapter So that's 1 Peter chapter 2 beginning at verse 11 If you've got one of the church Bibles, that's page 1218 Here is God's word Dear friends, I urge you as foreigners and exiles To abstain from sinful desires which wage war against your soul Live such good lives among the pagans That though they accuse you of doing wrong They may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day He visits us Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human authority
[12:19] Whether to the emperor as the supreme authority Or to governors who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong And to commend those who do right For it is God's will that by doing good You should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people Live as free people But do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil Live as God's slaves Show proper respect to everyone Love the family of believers Fear God Honor the emperor Slaves in reverent fear of God Submit yourselves to your masters Not only to those who are good and considerate But also to those who are harsh For it is commendable if someone bears up Under the pain of unjust suffering Because they are conscious of God How is it to your credit If you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it This is commendable before God
[13:21] To this you are called Because Christ suffered for you Leaving you an example that you should follow in His steps He committed no sin And no deceit was found in His mouth When they hurled their insults at Him He did not retaliate When He suffered He made no threats Instead He entrusted Himself to Him who judges justly He Himself For our sins in His body on the cross So that we might die to sin And live for righteousness By His wounds You have been healed For you were like sheep Going astray But now you have returned to the shepherd And the overseer Of your souls We thank God for the opportunity Please turn to 1 Peter Chapter 2 Where we read just a few moments ago Again just as a little bit of a recap
[14:23] So far really in Peter Peter's been speaking to these Christians Long-suffering Christians Persecuted Christians He's been talking to them About the blessings they have in Christ What God has done for them The privileges that are theirs He's spoken of them as being those Who are a chosen people A royal priesthood And of all the things that God has made them into But throughout He's been urging them And speaking to them About living different lives The very key as it were To this whole book of 1 Peter Is verse 15 of chapter 1 But just as He who called you is holy So be holy in all you do Because we are holy In the sense we are set apart for God We belong to Him We are special people Therefore that must have an outworking And effect upon our lives Day by day And everything that we do And that's really where we get to When we get to chapter 2 The actual we're being holy We are holy We be holy
[15:23] How we live out that holiness And we looked at that a little bit last week As I said Notice particularly there We're encouraged, urged To do good works That's going to come out again In verse 15 of this passage God's will by doing good So verses 13 to 17 particularly We're going to think of tonight There are some words in the English language Which really do, as it were Stir up the sinful and rebellious nature That we each of us have Words like submit Obey Authority There's something about those words Which immediately come head to head With our sinful flesh Our sinful nature And we know that's true Because whenever certain things happen Those words are used There is a reaction within us When a person tells us You can't do that Or you must do this
[16:26] A little ember Within our hearts Begins to be fanned into fire Doesn't it? How dare you tell me Not to do that? How can you say to me Who do you think you are?
[16:41] As believers As Christians The very first thing That happens in our lives Is that God By his Holy Spirit Causes us To be submitted Obedient To the authority Of Jesus Christ That's the very outset Of 1 Peter Chapter 1 And verse 2 He speaks about The triune God Working in our salvation The foreknowledge of God He talks about The sanctifying work Of the Spirit To be obedient To Jesus Christ That's the first thing Isn't it?
[17:14] When we speak Of people becoming A Christian We speak of them Trusting Jesus As Saviour And Lord Meaning not only That he is Lord Of God Of all He's on his throne And in authority But he is in authority Over my life And that I am submitted To him As my Saviour And my King That's a momentous Event isn't it In the life of a Christian It's something that Only God's Spirit Can do We can't be forced Into submission Forced into conversion As some people May think It must be that God by his Spirit Makes us glad And willing Objects Under the authority Of Christ But that Tremendous change That takes place In the believer Doesn't mean that We are no longer Rebellious at all It does not mean That suddenly Our nature Finds it easy To obey Easy To do the things That we are called Upon to do There is still An ongoing Struggle With the sinful flesh
[18:14] And so we have here In chapter 2 Verse 13 One of those Words that we dislike Submit Submit Submit It means of course To put ourselves Under the command Of somebody else It means to yield ourselves To somebody else's will And rule To place ourselves At their behest To do their bidding To do their bidding Rather than our own bidding It means to forsake That place Of supremacy In our lives But you see The most essential thing In submission Is that submission Must come Willingly It cannot be again Forced It must be Something that comes From the heart A submission Which is Glad To be obedient That's why When Jesus Spoke to his disciples In the gospel of John Chapter 15 He speaks in this way Anyone who loves me Will obey my teaching
[19:15] Verse 23 Verse 24 Anyone who does not love me Will not obey my teaching We're obedient to Christ Submitted to Christ Because in our hearts We love him It is an act Of love Now people can be obedient For all sorts of reasons Can't they We can be obedient From a desire For some reward In our workplace Or whatever it may be We can be obedient Because we want to be liked We want to be popular It may be because We want to have Financial gain We'll be obedient Or because we want People to say How good we are Our pride And our ego To be swollen But that obedience Is not submission Because it does not come From the right attitude We can yield again To somebody else's will Because we're afraid of them Afraid of what they'll do to us Or what they'll take from us Afraid of punishment But again That yielding
[20:15] Is not submission Not as the Bible Describes it here The believer Is to be the very best Citizen In their community In their nation Because it's only The believer Who has had his heart Moved by the Spirit of God To live differently To those sinful desires That once ruled him To live differently To the flesh So is there any real need Then for Peter To bring this instruction Submit to every human authority If we are by the Spirit Submissive to Christ Why do we need A further instruction Further submission Now of course Notice how Peter writes this Submit yourselves For the Lord's sake To every human authority It's taken for granted That as believers We will be submissive To spiritual authority Heavenly authority The Lord's authority
[21:17] That's not just what happens At the beginning Of our Christian life That's what happens All through our Christian life It's a decision It's a choice It's an attitude That takes place Every moment From when we wake To when we sleep We will be submissive To the Lordship of Jesus But as part of our Submission to God We shall submit To those he has placed In authority over us As well That's what he's saying And again These opening words Here in verse 13 Really span Not just the immediate Context of government Authority As we shall see But spreads out Into every place Every sphere Every area of our lives So when we get To verse 18 and following We have the workplace Slaves In reverent fear of God Submit yourselves To your masters We have it in the home Chapter 3 verse 1 Wives In the same way Submit yourselves To your husbands We have it in the church Over in chapter 5
[22:17] In the same way You who are younger Submit yourselves To your elders Submit Submit Submit Submit But before we get All riled up About all this submission That we have to do And find again That we find it difficult We need to stop And ask ourselves Why?
[22:40] For what reason Should we submit To all human authority? Why should that be Our desire Our choice Our will Our action Our lifestyle Our practice Well There are many reasons The very first And chief reason Is there in that Opening sentence And it covers Our obedience In everything It covers our Submission In every area It covers Everything that we do Submit yourselves For the Lord's Sake It doesn't say Submit yourselves To every human authority Because otherwise You'll get in prison Or you'll get into trouble Or you'll be fined Or anything else Like that For the Lord's sake Do this Why do we do What we do as Christians?
[23:39] Why are we meeting here On a Sunday evening When we could be at home Watching some rubbish On the television? Why aren't we out Walking while it's daylight And enjoying the Fresh and brisk Bracing Whitby air?
[23:53] Why are we Singing hymns? Why do we read The scriptures? Why are we listening To preaching? Do we do These things out of fear? Do we do these things Out of superstition As some would suppose?
[24:07] Do we do these things Out of the hope Of winning God's approval Or earning our ticket To heaven? No, of course not We do all these things As unto the Lord We do them For the Lord's sake Paul as he writes To Christians In Colossus Writes in chapter 3 About those who work Whatever you do Work at it With all your heart As working For the Lord Now it's true Of course That whatever we do We do because we know That the Lord rewards And blesses Those who obey him We have that in James In chapter 1 Verse 25 He writes this But whoever looks Intently into the perfect law That gives freedom And continues in it Not forgetting what they've heard But doing it They will be blessed In what they do We know that is part Of God's grace to us That there is blessing In obedience There is blessing In following his word There is blessing In doing his will
[25:07] But that's a secondary motivation For us to do the things We do as Christians It mustn't be the first That's in one sense Doing things simply Legally Simply for our own selfish ends That can't be the primary motive Though we know that it's the case That God blesses us We worship God And we seek to do his will Out of devotion to him We have that deep seated Holy Spirit Born desire Which makes us delight To do God's will And to seek to do God's will That's why when you read that psalm And I'd encourage you To read Psalm 119 Whenever you get the opportunity Again and again What does the psalmist say?
[25:52] He's a man of the spirit He's a man of God I rejoice in following your statutes As one rejoices in great riches Verse 16 I delight in your decrees There's a joy isn't there?
[26:06] And it's a Holy Spirit born joy That delights in doing God's will That delights in seeking his face That delights in doing things For his sake And again We know that whatever God commands us Is always for our good Isn't it?
[26:24] What does God tell us? That we should avoid Certain sinful actions And behaviour Because we know it's for our good Because sin only destroys It rubs us of our joy It brings consequences And damage But even when we forget That God's will for us Is always for our good Within us the Spirit of God Cannot help but move us And constrain us Because of our love for him And it's this particularly This Holy Spirit work in our hearts That makes us people Who live as free people Verse 16 In that passage Live as free people The world in which we live The world in which we live And the people who live in this world Like us Were people Who were not free They were people who were driven And moved by all sorts of Sinful desires They were driven by fear They were motivated by guilt By greed They were pushed along
[27:24] And constrained By the chains of self-serving desire People never do anything freely In this world There's always some motivation Some reason behind it But not the Christian They're free people We are free from those things We are free We don't need the law To constrain us To live lives that please God Or are loving to others Because the Spirit of God Has put that law within our hearts Now of course There are some people Who twist God's grace Who twist that freedom And clearly Peter has to write about them He says Live as free people But do so Not using your freedom As a cover up for evil In Peter's day And in the days of the apostles There were those who taught It didn't matter what you did in the body It was only your soul that mattered It was only your soul that would be saved So what you did in the body It doesn't matter whether you sin It doesn't matter whether you Whether you live holy lives or not
[28:25] Because that doesn't count Jude has the same problem as well In his brief little letter Near the end of the Bible He speaks about the problems he's got In Jude verse 4 He says Certain individuals Whose condemnation is written about long ago Have secretly slipped in amongst you They've come inside the church They are ungodly people Who pervert the grace of our God Into a license for immorality And deny Jesus Christ Our only sovereign and Lord That's been the case throughout history Sadly as well That there have been those who say Things like this Well God accepts us On the basis of what Jesus Christ has done We have nothing to contribute to Our acceptance with God So if our works don't save us If they don't add to our righteousness Or our standing with God We can do whatever we want We can please ourselves We can fulfill our lusts
[29:26] Whatever we like Because that can't change anything In our standing with God Paul had this problem as well Which he had to sort out In 1 Corinthians in chapter 6 He speaks about it And about how people's attitude was He's quoting them When he says in verse 12 I have the right to do anything You say But not everything is beneficial I have the right to do anything But I will not be mastered by anything You say food for the stomach And stomach for food And God will destroy them both The body however Is not meant for sexual immorality But for the Lord And the Lord for the body In Rome the teaching was so rife That again There were those there Who had something of the idea That actually by sinning You were exalting God's grace By sinning and committing sin
[30:28] You were showing how gracious God was In forgiving you But here's Paul As he speaks into that argument In Romans 6 and verse 1 What shall we say then?
[30:38] Shall we go on sinning So that grace may increase? By no means Later on in verse 15 What then? Shall we sin because we're not under the law But under grace?
[30:50] By no means See although as believers We are set free from The law's demands That doesn't mean that we carry on Living in sin Quite the opposite Because we have a freedom Which means that we are slaves of God Here in verse 16 Live as free people But do not use your freedom As a cover up for evil Live as God's slaves God has bound us By his wonderful grace To himself Not with chains or ropes Not with fear But with grace The spirit of God Within our hearts Moves us Constrains us Binds us If we live in sin If we go on living in the way Everybody else lives Or the way we used to live Then says Peter here We're giving fuel To the ignorant talk Of foolish people For he says It is God's will By doing good By living that life You should silence The ignorant talk Of foolish people The Holy Spirit
[31:52] Has given us Newness of life Newness of direction He works in our hearts Our minds Our lives He's the one who controls us The one who guides us The one who empowers us To do God's will That we might bring him glory In everything that we do That's why again Paul writes in 1 Corinthians In chapter 6 Verse 19 Do you not know That your bodies Are temples of the Holy Spirit Who is in you Whom you've received From God You're not your own You're bought at a price Therefore honor God With your bodies And again in Romans In chapter 8 Verses 5 and 14 Those who live According to the flesh Have their minds Set on what the flesh desires Those who live In accordance with the Spirit Have their minds Set on what the Spirit desires Verse 14 Those who are led By the Spirit That's the difference The Christian is someone
[32:53] Who is not Who does not follow The law of the world And does not follow The laws that are laid down Because he must And because he fears Not to do so But because In his heart of hearts The Spirit of God Guides him and leads him In the way that is Pleasing to God It's a totally radical A totally new way of living And so when we come back To this instruction Here in verse 13 Submitting ourselves For the Lord's sake To every human authority What does it mean?
[33:25] It means simply this We are to obey Those who have authority Over us in this world Because by doing so We are following God Obeying God He's the one who's placed them In authority He's the one who's placed them In that position Where they rule over us And have that authority To guide and direct In Romans chapter 13 Let everyone be subject To the governing authorities For there's no authority Except that which God Has established The authorities that exist Have been established By God Consequently Whoever rebels Against the authority Is rebelling against What God has instituted And those who do so Will bring judgment On themselves That must be Exceptionally hard For Christians Who live in countries Where they have Wicked governments People who live In North Korea China Many other parts Of the world There are governments And authorities there Who persecute
[34:26] Who oppose Things of God And yet says Paul Living as he does In the Roman Empire Where there was An emperor Who set himself up As God To whom people Had to offer Incense and worship He says that We're to submit We're to recognize That that emperor That king That government Is there Because God Has placed them there At this time They're not there By chance They're not there By fate They're not there By their own Conniving Or cleverness Or their own Skillful warfare They're there Because God Has placed them There Now we may find It hard In our own Situation In the United Kingdom Find it hard To respect Our national Government We might find It hard To respect Those who Are put over Us in any way Whether that be Police officers Or other servants Of the crown But we're not
[35:27] To view them As those who Are enemies Of God's grace Not to treat Them without Respect Because whether We like the laws Or not That they impose God has placed Them in authority Over us And we're to Submit to them Not for their Sake But for the Lord's sake For his name For his glory For his praise Because he has Asked us to Because his Spirit within us Compels us to And this Submitting yourselves To every authority Extends to All places Notice how Peter goes on Whether it's to The emperor As a supreme Authority And so we would Say the government In our day Or to governors Who are sent By him to Punish those Who do wrong And to command Those who do right All those Who are the servants As it were Of the government That must be Must include People like School teachers Have authority Over us If we're children In school Traffic wardens
[36:28] On the streets Those who collect Our taxes Those who serve In local government Now we have Complete freedom To disagree With what they Stand for We have Complete freedom To say that We believe That when the Government Makes a law It is wrong Or advised Or ungodly But we're not At liberty To attack them We're not At liberty To undermine Them Not liberty To dishonor Them Or to treat Them with Contempt In any way Or kind Those actions You see Are contrary To the law Of love Which is the Fulfillment Of God's will And Paul Writes to the Romans again In chapter 13 He tells them This truth Verse 10 The commandments You shall not Commit adultery You shall not Murder You shall not
[37:28] Steal You shall not Covert Whatever other Command there May be Are summed up In this one Command Love your Neighbour As yourself Love does No harm To a neighbour Therefore Love is the Fulfillment Of the law So we don't Need the law That says You mustn't Murder somebody Or beat them Up or mug them Because the law Of love says I wouldn't do Those things Because I love Them Everything that We do is to Be born of Love Every attitude Every action Born of love Love for God As we see here In verse 17 Love for the Family of believers The church When we meet Together on a Thursday as Church members To discuss And to seek God's will Ultimately Above all else We are to Act To think To speak In love Love for God And love for One another If we did that There'd be no Problems would there Be no problems In the church No problems In the world But what is
[38:29] Love As we've seen Already Loving God By the Spirit of God Within us Is submitting It's not Exalting Ourselves It's not Imposing my Will upon Another It's again Following In the Footsteps Of Jesus Philippians In chapter Two And I'll Close with These words Of Paul Therefore If you have Any encouragement From being United with Christ If any Comfort From his Love If any Common sharing In the Spirit If any Tenderness And compassion Then make My joy Complete by Being like Minded Having the Same love Being one In spirit And of one Mind Do nothing Out of selfish Ambition Or vain Conceit Rather In humility Value others Above yourselves Not looking To your own Interests But each of you
[39:30] To the interests Of others In your Relationship With one Another Have the Same mindset As Christ Jesus Let's pray Together Oh Lord We confess And know That in our Hearts There are Still those Strains Of selfish Rebellion And disobedience We know Within our Hearts Oh Lord That there Is a Desire To kick Against Authority We want Still To be In control We want Still to Have our Way In the Things of This world And we Ask again Oh Lord That you Would deal With us We thank You for Your Holy Spirit's Work within Us That he Has changed And is Changing And transforming Us And we Ask that he Would continue To do so We ask Oh Lord That more And more We might
[40:30] Be men And women Who reflect The nature The character Of our Lord Jesus Christ We pray That we Might be Those who Are led By your Spirit Just as He was We might Be those Who walk In step With your Will Our heavenly Father As he Did We ask Oh Lord That in Our lives We may Live such Good lives That indeed Men and Women around About us May see The reality And the Power of The gospel We ask For your Help living In this World at This time Where we Know Lord That there Is much Wickedness Much Evil Much Which is To be Rebuked In our Government And in The laws Of our Land And yet Lord we Ask that You would Help us To submit Help us Where we Need to Stand For what Is right And just And true To do So With grace With patience With love Help us Lord not To fight For our Own sake Our own Name Our own Wealth Our own Pleasure But rather Help us To stand
[41:30] For those Things which Are honouring And glorifying To you We thank You again Oh Lord For the Government We have And as We prayed Even earlier Today How we Thank you For the Freedom We have Your word Tells us We're to Pray for Governments And so We pray For our Government We pray For our Prime Minister And the Members of The Cabinet That oh Lord Their hearts May be Turned to You That they Might seek You And seek To do What is Right And pleasing In your Eyes We pray Lord For those Who are In government On both Sides Of parliament That oh Lord You would Place their Christian men And women Who would be God fearing And God Loving That Lord They may Have effect And influence In our Society We pray For ourselves Again Oh Lord Make us To be People Whose lives Live Are lived Differently Christ Centredly That indeed Everything we Do may Be with that Thought That we Do this For you Lord And for Your name Help us
[42:31] Then as we Ask these Things In the name Of our Saviour The Lord Jesus Christ Amen We'll sing Our final Hymn This evening It's Hymn number 818 Fourth In thy Name O Lord I go My daily Labour To pursue Thee Only Thee Resolve To know In all I think Or speak Or do Let's Make this Not only A hymn Of praise And thanksgiving But also The offering Of our own Hearts And lives To the Lord Things Of our own
[43:34] To Tendo состо Thank you.
[44:09] May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through.
[44:22] May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it. Amen.
[44:39] Amen.
